Application to the Gila County Sheriff’s Posse is open to any resident of Arizona who is 18 years of ago or older and meets the Sheriff’s requirements. Applicants must be of good moral character and are a loyal citizens of the United State of America.

Applicants shall apply for membership in writing by
completing the State of Arizona, Sheriff’s Office
Employment Voluntary Service Application.

Applications will be reviewed individually by a review team consisting of three (3) Sheriff’s Posse Board Members. The Applicant will be contacted for a time and a place for an interview. Upon the return of an acceptable application and completion of a NCIC background check, the applicant shall also attend three (3) meetings before being sworn in. Annual dues of $25.00 must be collected in advance before the applicant can be sworn in. New members are on a probationary status for one year. Uniforms will be provided at no cost.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office Posse is comprised of people from all walks of life who want to give back to their community. Posse volunteers work with deputies and civilian staff to help improve law enforcement and enhance public safety. While not compensated, the volunteers perform an invaluable service to the community. Posse volunteer personnel are trained in a variety of essential support functions, such as:

  • Search and Rescue
  • Crime Scene
  • Security Patrol
  • Support Administrative
  • Support Civic Functions
  • Disaster Relief
  • Emergency Response

Minimum Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age
  • A legal US resident
  • Have a valid driver’s license
  • Be in good health
  • Applicants cannot have been convicted of any felonies, have any misdemeanor convictions in the last 12 months, or a record of improper personal conduct which may affect their suitability for assisting law enforcement.
